Sonnenbühl dripstone caves

Sonnenbühl dripstone caves

Mighty stalagmites and stalactites that have swollen into towering stone columns over millions of years, rock pillars as tall as houses and fossilised bear skeletons, all cloaked in permanent darkness – a spectacle of nature to leave you awestruck. With modern lighting that makes them easy to explore, the Nebelhöhle (discovered 1517), Karlshöhle (1834) and Bärenhöhle (1949) caves attract visitors from all over the world.

Every year an average of 62,000 day-trippers visit Nebelhöhle Cave. A warm welcome awaits in the “Rasthaus Nebelhöhle” restaurant, open daily from 11am.

Sonnenbühl Cycle Day, which takes place every year at the start of September, sets off from Bärenhöhle Cave. Visitors can also expect a friendly atmosphere in the Gasthaus Bärenhöhle inn, open all day every day.

Opening times:
April to the end of the autumn school holidays in the region: daily from 9am to 5.30pm
March and November: weekends and public holidays from 9am to 5pm
December to February: closed for winter
